Getting Started

We want to make your next (or first) class at Ohm Yoga Studio as enjoyable as possible. Here’s what to expect and how to get started.

If I’m not flexible, can I still do yoga? . . .

At Ohm Yoga Studio, we welcome all types of bodies. Flexibility is not a requirement to practice yoga, it’s a benefit. You do not need to be flexible or touch your toes to practice. However, you might notice that over time, with regular and consistent practice, your range of flexibility may increase. What if I have pre-existing pain, injuries or illness? . . .

Yoga practice is an opportunity to listen to and respect what your body is telling you. We invite you to find a balance of effort and ease as you move through the practice, and to take care of yourself in all the ways that you need to. You can receive all the wonderful benefits of practicing yoga without pushing your body to the point of feeling pain or exacerbating an injury or illness. There are many modifications that our qualified instructors can advise you on, and we encourage you to rest as often as you wish and need to during a class.

Why should I practice yoga? . . .

People come to yoga for many reasons. Whether you are interested in physical fitness, reducing stress, healing an old injury, getting relief from chronic pain, or experiencing a connection to your body and self and deep inner peace, yoga has something to offer you! There’s a good amount of research backing the benefits of yoga for body, mind and spirit.

Do you have beginner classes? . . .

We offer a variety of classes that are great for beginners. Some classes to look into as a beginner include but are not limited to: Gentle, Hatha, Yin, and Restorative Yoga. Do I need prior yoga experience to try any of the classes? . . .

Some classes are more beginner-friendly than others. Descriptions of our classes are available on our website under class descriptions.

Do I need a reservation to sign up for studio or online classes? . . .

Yes, you’ll need to reserve your spot in class by registering on our website before coming to class. Walk-ins are welcome as long as there is a spot remaining in class. Having trouble signing up? Give us a call or email our studio manager at info@ohmyoga.studio.

What should I wear? . . .

Fancy yoga attire is not required! We recommend you wear whatever you would feel comfortable wearing for any form of physical exercise.

How to Sign-up a Buddy for Class if I have a Monthly Unlimited Pass? . . .

How to use your Buddy pass: Purchase your Monthly Unlimited Pass. Visit the Schedule screen and select the class you'd like to sign up for. Select the Pass you'd like to use. Listed under your available Class Passes will be a selection to "RESERVE FOR" with the options of "Myself" or "Guest". Select the "Guest" option and input the necessary information Scroll down and select "Reserve my spot". Your Buddy is now all set for class! *Make sure you sign up both yourself and your buddy for any practice you intend to participate in with your buddy.

Where to Park . . .

Directly in front of our Studio is the parking lot for the 57 Franklin Building with lots of FREE parking. To enter the parking lot, enter the code 11102 at the gate. There is also abundant street parking and other parking lots in the near vacinity.

What should I expect during my first visit? . . .

Please sign up online through our website, and arrive for your first class 5-15 minutes early. Feel free to let the instructor know that it is your first time. They’ll happily give you added guidance and assistance during class to ensure you’re practicing yoga safely. They’ll give you a tour of the studio and help familiarize you with our facility.

What should I bring to class? . . .

We recommend a non-slip yoga mat (we have some at the studio if you don’t have one), a water bottle, and that you wear comfortable clothing.

Do I wear my shoes during yoga? . . .

Shoes are not needed to practice yoga. However, we recognize that you know your own body better than we do. If you need to have your shoes on for a personal or medical reason, you may leave them on.

How early should I arrive for class? . . .

If you’re joining us in studio, you’re welcome to arrive 5-15 minutes early.

Can I practice yoga while pregnant? . . .

We recommend speaking to your doctor beforehand to decide which classes may be appropriate for your body throughout the different stages of pregnancy. Additionally, you may choose to let the instructor know that you are pregnant so that they can offer appropriate modifications to the poses for you.

Are there any age restrictions? . . .

Children ages 15 and up are welcome to come to class alone, and we’ll ask that a parent or guardian sign a waiver for anyone who is under 18. Please inquire further for younger guests.

Are the classes heated? . . .

When we are practicing in studio, some of the classes may be heated, and they will be labeled as such on the schedule. In classes that are not labeled “heated” or “hot”, a heater may be used to bring the studio to a comfortable temperature or a fan may be used to cool the room.

What is your cancellation policy if I need to cancel class? . . .

At Ohm Yoga Studio, we know that sometimes you'll need to cancel your plans. We have a 12-hour cancellation window. To create the best opportunity for all of our yogis, you'll see our early cancellation, late cancellation and no show policies below. When possible, we encourage you to cancel early so you can use your class for another time that works for you, and this also will allow other yogis to book a class. If you need to late cancel or aren't able to make it, you will be charged for a class. Early cancellation (12 hours or more before class): No charge. Your pass will be available to use for your next class. Late cancellation (Less than 12 hours before class) or no show: If you have a class package, one class will be deducted from your account. If you've booked as a drop-in, you will still be charged the drop-in fee. If you booked a workshop, you will be charged for the workshop. All cancellations should be made via the Ohm Yoga Website.
